Located in the heart of historic Delaware City on the Delaware River, the Delaware City Canal House is the perfect place for a relaxing getaway. This waterfront property offers beautiful views of the quaint, historic seaport and is steps away from the Delaware City Marina and Fort Delaware State Park. Guests can walk to the wonderful restaurants and shops located in Delaware City.
The DC Canal house is centrally located between Baltimore and Philadelphia and is close to the University of Delaware as well as many local attractions. Fort Delaware State Park offers ferry rides to historic Fort Delaware, a Union fortress that once housed confederate prisoners during the Civil War. In the spring, take a step back in time and enjoy a Civil War tour. During the fall months, the fortress is open for paranormal and ghost tours.
In the summer, guests may enjoy one of the many festivals in the area. In July, Delaware City Day honors the towns “small town America culture" and features a parade, fireworks and local entertainment. In September, Canal Fest is a celebration by the water. Visitors will enjoy a street fair, crafts show and entertainment.
Nature buffs may choose to rent a canoe or kayak to explore the river or bring your binoculars to view the many species of birds that migrate to the area. Nearby Pea Patch Island is a summer home to nine different species of herons, egrets and ibis. The remote marshes provide an outstanding habitat for one of the largest wading bird nesting areas on the East Coast. A hiking trail and its observation platform provide opportunities for photography and nature study. This natural habitat is now the home of the American Birding Association.
